Senator\u00a0Ted Cruz<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0Texas\u00a0<\/strong>has once again voiced support for the Bitcoin (BTC)\u00a0mining industry, highlighting its potential benefits during times of extreme weather conditions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In an interview on Fox News Radio, Cruz expressed his belief in Bitcoin mining, claiming that it enhances the resiliency of the energy grid.<\/p>\n

Citing the recent challenges faced by the Texas power grid due to inclement weather, Cruz explained that Bitcoin mining operations can easily power down in times of crisis, effectively serving as emergency reservoirs of power.\u00a0<\/p>\n

These measures can free up energy for essential services such as hospitals and heating homes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The senator defended the industry, asserting that Bitcoin mining creates value while also providing a solution to energy supply challenges.<\/p>\n

“Texas is a hub for jobs, innovation, and freedom\u2014making it the natural oasis for Bitcoin mining,” he said in a recent tweet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“These operations can improve our grid resiliency since they can shut off during inclement weather and free up electricity to heat or cool homes.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In late June, Bitcoin miners in Texas\u00a0halted operations\u00a0after a heat wave and subsequent surge in electricity prices put the state’s power grid under pressure.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The pause in mining operations in Texas came as the state has been struggling with an unrelenting heat wave for the past two weeks, which has also put unprecedented pressure on the power grid.<\/p>\n

Crypto Sees Growing Support From US Politicians<\/h2>\n

Politicians from both the\u00a0Republican\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Democratic\u00a0<\/strong>parties have shown varying degrees of support for cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n

Several Republican figures, including Florida Governor\u00a0Ron DeSantis<\/strong>, entrepreneur\u00a0Vivek Ramaswamy<\/strong>, and Senator\u00a0Tim Scott<\/strong>\u00a0of South Carolina, have voiced their support for cryptocurrencies either through legislative initiatives or by challenging regulatory measures.<\/p>\n

In his May 24 presidential bid announcement on Twitter, DeSantis said he would \u201cprotect\u201d Bitcoin. \u201cAs president, we\u2019ll protect the ability to do things like Bitcoin,\u201d said DeSantis.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He added \u201cthere\u2019s risks involved with it,\u201d but the people interested in the cryptocurrency \u201care sophisticated\u201d and \u201ccan make decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Likewise, Ramaswamy has been actively\u00a0advocating for a stronger crypto\u00a0environment in the United States.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At the recent Bitcoin 2023 conference in Miami, he also announced that his campaign would accept Bitcoin contributions.<\/p>\n

During the event, Ramaswamy unveiled a QR code that directed attendees to a donation portal offering various contribution avenues.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Although Democrats have been more cautious in openly supporting cryptocurrencies, there are notable backers within the party.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Senator\u00a0Kirsten Gillibrand<\/strong>\u00a0of New York, for instance, co-sponsored a bill with Republican Senator\u00a0Cynthia Lummis<\/strong>\u00a0to establish clear-cut crypto regulations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.<\/strong>, who became the first US presidential contender to embrace cryptocurrency contributions, is another Democrat backing the nascent crypto sector.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cBitcoin is not only a bulwark against totalitarianism and the manipulation of our money supply, it points the way toward a future in which government institutions are more transparent and more democratic,” Kennedy said in a June tweet.<\/p>\n
