Boston Federal Reserve President Susan Collins said Friday that the softer consumer price inflation data released this week was promising news but that she didn\u2019t want to overreact to the numbers and draw the conclusion that the central bank was done raising interest rates.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t take additional firming off the table,\u201d Collins said, in an interview on CNBC.<\/p>\n

\n

Just like it was important not to overreact to a bad inflation print, Collins said she didn\u2019t want to overreact to promising news.<\/p>\n

Excluding volatile food and energy prices, consumer inflation is still running at a 3.4% annual rate over the past three months, she said, \u201cThat\u2019s higher than we want\u201d and the Fed needed to be \u201cpatient and resolute.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition, Collins said the monthly and weekly economic data was \u201cso noisy right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rent inflation has been very uneven she noted. There is also \u201cmore to do\u201d on non-shelter service inflation, she added.<\/p>\n
