\n McDonald\u2019s is seemingly <\/strong>everywhere. That\u2019s apparently <\/strong>not enough.\n <\/p>\n

\n The burger chain plans to have 50,000 locations globally by 2027, it said in a release Wednesday, ahead of an investor event taking place the same day. As of September 30, there were roughly 41,000 McDonald\u2019s establishments in all.\n <\/p>\n

\n The increase would be \u201cthe fastest period of growth in company history,\u201d McDonald\u2019s said in a statement.\n <\/p>\n

\n It may seem like the global market is already saturated with fast food restaurants. But McDonald\u2019s doesn\u2019t see it that way: As humanity changes, the company should too \u2014\u00a0and add more restaurants, so it can maximize sales in all areas.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cOur footprint reflects what the population looks like probably 20 or 30 years ago,\u201d McDonald\u2019s CEO Chris Kempczinski said of the company\u2019s domestic footprint during an analyst call in July. \u201cThere\u2019s a number of places around the US where we are significantly underdeveloped relative to where the population exists today. That opens up for us a whole bunch of development opportunities for us to go after,\u201d he said.\n <\/p>\n

\n Along with geographical changes, the company is also considering how the very idea of what a McDonald\u2019s is should change as well.\n <\/p>\n

\n Kempczinski added at the time that the company can now \u201c[think] about small format,\u201d because \u201cof the growth that\u2019s happened with the digital and delivery, where you don\u2019t necessarily need the big dining rooms that you needed in our traditional restaurants.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Over the summer, McDonald\u2019s said it was testing out a new restaurant concept called \u201cCosMc\u2019s,\u201d named after a little-known McDonald\u2019s character.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cCosMc\u2019s is a small format concept with all the DNA of McDonald\u2019s but its own unique personality,\u201d CEO Chris Kempczinski said during the July call. The company may offer more of an insight into its plans for CosMc\u2019s during the investor event.\n <\/p>\n

\n In addition to the new locations, McDonald\u2019s wants to significantly expand its loyalty program, taking it\u00a0from\u00a0150 million to 250 million\u00a090-day active users by 2027.\n <\/p>\n

\n Loyalty programs let companies learn more about their customers\u2019 preferences, and allow them to offer specific deals that may help prevent them from going to competitors.\n <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
