He was acquitted of one count of sexual assault and one count of forcible confinement.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clow482ab0003356hpc5w2a75@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      A sentencing hearing will be set on November 21, prosecutors told CNN.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clow482ab0004356hx75uwflb@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      CNN has reached out to Nygard\u2019s attorney for comment.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clow482ab0005356hbweug1qm@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      Nygard is also awaiting potential extradition to the United States, where he faces a federal indictment filed in 2020 in the Southern District of New York that accuses him of using his fashion business as a \u201cfa\u00e7ade of legitimacy\u201d in order to conceal sex trafficking and other illegal activity. Prosecutors allege the businessman used his ties to the fashion industry to entice young women with drugs, money and the lure of a successful modeling career.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clow482ab0006356h0kgeitvy@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      The accusers were then \u201cforcibly sexually assaulted, drugged, and\/or coerced into sexual contact with Nygard,\u201d according to the US indictment. Many alleged victims were underage girls who came from disadvantaged backgrounds or had a history of abuse.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clow482ab0007356hg7ypr967@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      Ken Frydman, a spokesman for Nygard, has said the allegations against Nygard are false and intended to damage the designer and his businesses.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clow482ab0008356h5yo3jj8k@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      Nygard consented to be extradited to the United States in 2021 but in 2023 he appealed against extradition, according to court documents reviewed by CBC.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clow4j7py00023b6i0f4928z8@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      Nygard served as chairman of Winnipeg-based women\u2019s clothing company Nygard International, which he founded in 1967.
