\n SAG-AFTRA said it has responded to <\/strong>Hollywood studios\u2019 \u201clast, best & final offer\u201d on Monday<\/a> as pressure ramps up to reach a deal ending the industry-freezing strike.\n <\/p>\n

\n The\u00a0actors\u2019\u00a0union\u00a0said\u00a0in a message to its members that\u00a0there are several \u201cessential items\u201d that\u00a0the two sides\u00a0have yet to reach\u00a0agreement\u00a0on, such as\u00a0the use of\u00a0AI.\n <\/p>\n

\n The union said every member of its negotiating committee \u201cis determined to secure the right deal and thereby bring this strike to an end responsibly.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n On Saturday, the union said it had received and was reviewing the proposal from the\u00a0Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which it\u00a0described as its \u201cLast, Best, and Final Offer.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n AMPTP members include Disney, Netflix, NBCUniversal, and Warner Bros. Discovery. Warner Bros. Discovery is the parent company of CNN.\n <\/p>\n

\n It\u2019s still not clear when\u00a0a\u00a0deal\u00a0to end the nearly four-month-long strike\u00a0will be\u00a0reached, but the standoff has taken on heightened urgency in recent days as the two sides work to resolve the standoff in time to salvage the remainder of the winter television season.\n <\/p>\n

\n SAG-AFTRA, which represents about 160,000 actors, announced its members would walk off sets on July 14, joining the striking writers in a historic double walkout against the studios. Both unions\u00a0have advocated for restrictions on the use of artificial intelligence, a technology that actors and writers alike believe poses an existential threat to their livelihoods.\n <\/p>\n

\n Members of the Writers Guild of America union ratified a new contract with Hollywood and television studios in early October. It included assurances that AI cannot write or rewrite literary material and will require AI-generated materials to be disclosed to writers.\n <\/p>\n

\n Despite the anticipation for a deal, 5,000 SAG-AFTRA members signed an online petition urging\u00a0a hard line in negotiations toward a final agreement, saying they would not agree to a deal that did not meet the demands laid out at the start of the strike.\n <\/p>\n
