The Federal Reserve reports consumer credit data for September. In August total consumer debt fell at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 3.8% to $4.97 trillion. Revolving credit, mainly credit card debt, jumped 13.8%. Nonrevolving credit, such as mortgages and auto loans, declined 9.8%, reflecting the slowdown in the housing market.<\/p>\n

Consumers\u2019 expectations for the year-ahead inflation was 4.2% in October, a one percentage point jump from September and the highest reading since May.<\/p>\n
