James later left the company, and Lachlan became CEO of the Fox Corporation in 2019, following Disney\u2019s acquisition of 21st Century Fox.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/paragraph_5B2650AB-D4AB-8C53-00CF-B7FBFD001378@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      With his father\u2019s departure, Lachlan will become the sole chairman of both Fox and News, after having co-chaired the company for years. The elder Murdoch will continue to serve on the boards as chairman emeritus, the companies said.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/paragraph_51036BBC-944A-3E43-DA4F-B85D08DCA5EF@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      \u201cWe thank him for his vision, his pioneering spirit, his steadfast determination, and the enduring legacy he leaves to the companies he founded and countless people he has impacted,\u201d Lachlan Murdoch said in a statement Thursday morning.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/paragraph_AA008B0E-F050-F1BB-3B94-B816E8B66FDB@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      It\u2019s unclear whether right-wing cable network\u2019s pro-Trump rhetoric will change with Lachlan Murdoch more fully in the driver\u2019s seat.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/paragraph_C9D3536E-5746-9BC4-497B-B7FAD6B5DBA3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      However, Lachlan has privately criticized Trump, saying that he disagrees with much of the way the former president behaves, people familiar with the matter told CNN last year. At the same time, a 2022 biography of Lachlan notes that as CEO of the network he ultimately approved the extraordinary decision not to air the first live hearings conducted by the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol. The network opted instead to run commentary on the hearing from right-wing commentators Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/paragraph_734D7A49-466C-BA7D-A4CB-B832320B54DC@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      At the time those hearings aired, Australian journalist Paddy Manning wrote in the biography, Lachlan and his wife, Sarah, were relaxing on their $30 million yacht in the Sydney Harbour.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/paragraph_097BCA1A-C2A5-5961-6976-B8181C870838@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      Lachlan, who was born in London and graduated from Princeton, is one of three children Rupert had with his second wife, Anna Torv. He was raised in the United States from age 3, and spent much of his adult life in Australia.
