\n Adidas CEO Bj\u00f8rn Gulden said he doesn\u2019t think Kanye West \u201cmeant what he said\u201d when the rapper spewed antisemitic comments last year.\n <\/p>\n

\n In a recent podcast interview, Gulden complimented West, also known as Ye, calling him \u201cone of the most creative people in the world.\u201d Gulden said the fact that Ye made the statements \u201cwasn\u2019t that good\u201d and led Adidas to break the contract and withdraw the product, referencing the end of its Yeezy line.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cVery unfortunate, because I don\u2019t think he meant what he said, and I don\u2019t think he\u2019s a bad person. It just came across that way,\u201d Gulden said, who is Norwegian born with English not being his first language. \u201cThat meant we lost that business, one of the most successful collabs in the history \u2026 very sad.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Adidas told CNN its position has \u201cnot changed\u201d and that \u201cending the partnership was appropriate.\u201d Gulden became CEO in November 2022, shortly after the partnership with West ended.\n <\/p>\n

\n West went on a tirade against Jews in a different podcast, saying that he \u201ccan say antisemitic s*** and Adidas cannot drop me\u201d and threatened to \u201cgo death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE\u201d on his X account. His comments garnered global outrage and a few days later Adidas ended its nine-year business relationship with him.\n <\/p>\n

\n Prior to those comments, Adidas put the \u201cpartnership under review\u201d after he wore a \u201cWhite Lives Matter\u201d T-shirt in public. The Anti-Defamation League categorizes the phrase as a \u201chate slogan\u201d used by White supremacist groups, including the Ku Klux Klan.\n <\/p>\n

\n Adidas took a huge financial hit after the dissolution of the Yeezy line of shoes. The company said it expected to lose $1.3 billion in revenue this year because it was unable to sell the designer\u2019s Yeezy clothing and shoes.\n <\/p>\n

\n However, strong sales so far of leftover Yeezy inventory is helping it to recoup some of its losses. It now expects to make a \u20ac450 million ($491 million) operating loss in 2023, a much better outcome than the \u20ac700 million ($764 million) loss it had forecast back in March.\n <\/p>\n

\n Adidas recently signed a $1.2 billion deal with British football club Manchester United in an attempt to find another successful collaboration in the wake of West\u2019s exit.\n <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
